Tag, you're it!

I've been tagged to participate in this... thing... by Ellie over at The Beggar Who Gives Alms. Go check it out. She's pretty awesome. :)

Anyway, the rules! Because all fun things have rules, right?
1) post these rules
2) you must post 11 random things about yourself
3) answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post
4) create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer
5) go to their blog and tell them they've been tagged

So. Step 1. Check.

Step 2. Random things. I'm good at randomness. Mostly.

i. I like foreign food, as long as it's American-ized. I'm eating some wonderful, very American chou-mein right now.

ii. I'm an insomniac, which I'm sure I've mentioned before. Blogs and really late dinners are the perfect things to delay not-sleeping.

iii. I have never, on this blog, written a capital letter inside {these brackets}. Considering that this is only the thirty-fourth post, it's not so spectacular, but I think I'll stick to it.

iv. I'm obsessed with roman numerals.

v. I have very split personalities. If you go to my church, you probably know me as either bouncy and obnoxious, or rather sarcastic. If you know me from this blog... you don't really know me.

vi. Is this really only six? I love the number eleven, but seriously... it's such a big number...

vii. You might not have thought that ^that was a random fact about me. But I did say that I like eleven. So ha. As for this random fact, I really like the number seven, as well.

viii. I'm totally obsessed with Irish music groups. Deanta, to name one. Look them up on youtube.

ix. My guitar has a name. Aria. She's blue.

x. I'm really tired, in case you can't tell. It's almost 11:00. Oh, my. There's that number again.

xi. My youth pastor told us girls that one day, like everyone, we will get old. I think I was the only one sort of excited about that...

Done! Wait, what was Step 3, again?
Oh, yeah. Answer Ellie's questions.

1. Are you a fashion fan and if so, what are your favorite brands and designers?
Not particularly, no. But I do like the Sonoma brand for some reason. Yes, I am aware that they mostly do older-ladies' clothing.

2. What is your favorite thing to take pictures of? People? Landscapes? Macro shots?
I don't have a great camera, but I like taking pictures of my dogs. Especially since one thinks he's a model.

3. Do you play any instruments?
I just started guitar, and I fiddle around a lot on the piano. But nothing spectacular.

4. Have you ever met a real ninja?
Uh, no? Maybe? If I knew, I don't think he/she did his/her job very well...

5. What's your favorite smell?
Mmm... bread baking. And cinnamon rolls.

6. Do you know any foreign languages?
I know about four phrases in Spanish, fifty some-odd words in Sign Language, and I'm fluent in Vyllgyns (language of the giants).

7. Did you know that writing these questions is easier that I thought?
Really? Lucky. You spelled 'writing' wrong originally, though. (Heehee... :D)

8. What do you think about Ghandi and his ideas on civil disobedience and nonviolence?
Oh, boy. I've managed to keep this blog non-political for thirty-four posts. I think I'll skip this question.

9. What's the last thing you ate?
Chou-mein. Before that, I don't remember.

10. Have you watched any interesting artistically expressive movies recently?
Uh... not really, no. I watched Winnie the Pooh. <3

11. Why do you think here are 11 questions here, and do you like the number 10 better and 11 or do you really not care?
I dunno. 'Cause eleven rocks. It's way better than ten. :P

Okay! Step 4!

1. What's your favorite color shade? {ie- turquoise. aqua. not blue.}
2. If you had to wear a hat every day for a year, what kind of hat would it be?
3. If you could have a single thing follow you around for a month, what would it be?
4. Hold your breath. How long did you last?
5. What is the strangest nickname you've been called?
6. What's your favorite Bible verse/passage? Why?
7. What animal do you think your best friend is most like?
8. What was your favorite age? Why?
9. Quick! Last five books that you've read?
10. Wow, I'm really bad at this. What question do you think I should ask?
11. What's your favorite writing utensil?

DONE!

Phew. I would tag people now. But I'm too tired. I'll tell y'all tomorrow.

Book Update!

Remember Pepper Grey? The book that I told you all I was going to focus on? The one I had a perfectly planned-out story chart for? Yeah. This is what that looks like now.

Big. And empty.

I decided it wasn't going in the direction I wanted it to, so I tore it all off, dumped it in a pile, and never rewrote my ideas. Instead, I started fiddling around on a blank Word document and ended up posting that random clip about a random girl named Liadyn. She wormed her way into my head, shoved Peace and Ethan out my ear, and whispered her life story until it was all I could think about.

Now I'm obsessed with her story, a Maiden's Touch. Sorry, Pepper Grey.

I might post an excerpt of it sometime soon. Sorry for this short, facebook-not-blog-worthy, post.

Manly vs. Girly

An adjective used to describe me yesterday was 'manly'. It resulted, I'm ashamed to say, in quite the little tirade. And it was over such a silly thing as nail polish.

Now, let me clarify. The only times I have worn makeup was rather begrudgingly at various slumber parties, the last of which was four years ago. Nail polish I have worn, very unhappily as it tends to make my fingers feel goopy, but only once has it been willing - when I was testing out the 'newsprint nails' that were sweeping through the blogosphere a few months ago. I dress myself for comfort rather than style. I'm rather happy with the way I am and I like to think that all attempts to convince me otherwise have failed miserably.

I would rather my hands be judged on the work they do rather than what color, shape, or design happens to be embossed on the nails.

People pay attention to my lips because of the words that slip past them, not how shiny they are.

[via pinterest]

No one can come to me and say, "Wow, Char, that eyeliner really makes your eyes pop!" If they notice my eyes at all, it's because my eyes did the work on their own.

[via something... forgot where exactly]

And about my clothes, I've heard several rather insulting things, one of the worst being, "You should really start shopping in the girls' section."

[via pinterest]

I don't think badly of you if you wear makeup, and I like listening to girls chattering about their nail polish. I'm just as quick on the draw as the next girl to compliment you on a cute new (or even old) skirt or pair of shoes.

I'm not manly. I just won't go out of my way to be girly, either.

My Oh-So-Lovable Sister

Today was a very special day. Clean-the-house-and-have-friends-over kind. Why? 'Cause it's Alyx's birthday.

[Alyx on 'It's a Small World']

I woke up this morning, gave her a big hug, and said, "Happy Birthday! You're fourteen now!"

"No I'm not," was the response.

She can't be thirteen 'cause she's already been thirteen and she can't be fifteen 'cause I'm fifteen...

It turns out, she had this crazy logic that went something like, "I was born at 9:00pm on the 7th in Seattle, so here I wasn't actually born 'till 12:00am on the 8th..."

Psh. Go and make me feel like a jerk for no good reason...
